It is generally accepted that the sectors of bio-economy, their competitiveness and their future development are of strategic importance to Europe. One of the key issues for future competitiveness is the ability to innovate through research that leads to the generation of applicable new knowledge. To achieve this, afurther development of effective mechanisms for knowledge transfer (or "technology transfer", as it is often referred to) is necessary. Also, cooperation of the various research facilities with industrial stakeholders is vital in order to accelarate the exploitation of research. By understanding the attitude of the (traditional) enterprises of the bio-economy sectors towards innovation, particularly that of the SMEs, on the one hand, and by passing these findings, together with the appropriate tools, to the knowledge developers on the other, the existing situation in academia – industry cooperation and knowledge transfer can be improved.
The present conference, organized by the Knowledge2Innovation FP7 project in Budapest, under the Hungarian EU Presidency, will bring together researchers, industry representatives and knowledge transfer experts and offer ground for discussion and exchange of views on current practices, needs and challenges regarding knowledge transfer. Thematically, it will look into the European strategy for innovation, discuss the potential of knowledge transfer means and networks in promoting innovation in the field of bio-economy and elaborate on practical tools for knowledge transfer. The conference will be followed by a workshop session on key knowledge transfer issues, mainly targeting at young researchers and knowledge transfer professionals. |
